“Nvidia's chips are a critical ingredient for creating AI systems such as chatbots, image generators and more specialized ones that can help craft biological weapons. Both President Donald Trump and his predecessor, Joe Biden, have implemented progressively tighter export controls of Nvidia's chips to China.
In Nvidia's last fiscal year that ended on January 26, China generated $17 billion in revenue, or 13% of the company's total sales.
But Reuters and other news organizations have documented how some of those chips have continued to flow, and Nvidia has publicly claimed it cannot track its products after they are sold.
U.S. Representative Bill Foster, a Democrat from Illinois who once worked as a particle physicist, said the technology to track chips after they are sold is readily available, with much of it already built in to Nvidia's chips.”

Die FPÖ wirft Ihnen gerne Parteilichkeit vor. Ein Gericht stellte kürzlich fest, dass Sie den Vorwurf der „Pseudowissenschaftlichkeit” aushalten müssten.
Wir sind als Wissenschaftler ein Feindbild der extremen Rechten, wie auch die Klimaforschung oder Virologen. Normalerweise ignorieren wir das Gerülpse der FPÖ, aber es gibt eine Grenze. Der Vorwurf der Unwissenschaftlichkeit ist für eine Forschungsstelle rufschädigend, weshalb wir geklagt haben. Das Urteil besagt nun, dass wir zwar wissenschaftlich arbeiten, aber uns beschimpfen lassen müssen, weil wir oft in den Medien auftreten.
Was ist daran problematisch?
Hier wird in einem Präzedenzurteil eine Symmetrie hergestellt zwischen einer Forschungseinrichtung und einem parteipolitischen Apparat. Wenn man das weiter denkt, müsste jeder Meeresbiologe, der in den Medien sagt, dass der Meeresspiegel steigt, sich mit einem Politiker gleichstellen lassen. Das ist ein Gesamtangriff auf die Wissenschaft.
“Claude has no self awareness. It doesn't know what it's thinking about, what it tells you it's doing is completely disconnected from what it's actually doing. I'd say that self-awareness is a precondition for consciousness, so this model is nowhere near conscious. The example also tells us that all the talk about emergent features in large language models is nonsense. Claude doesn't learn how to do maths, despite the fact that it has access to thousands of textbooks and algorithms. All it does is token predictions. Yes, it uses intermediate steps that you can interpret as internal reasoning, but it's still just token predictions. It hasn't developed an abstract math score or anything.”
